John Murphy, divisional v-p and director of publicity at St. Martin's Press, has been promoted to the newly created role of v-p, publishing strategy. Tracey Guest, who was at Penguin, has been named Murphy's successor, taking on the role of director of publicity.
Murphy, who has been with SMP for over 25 years, will now be involved in author relations and list development across all the publisher's divisions, in addition to being tasked with seeking out new publishing opportunities and identifying industry trends.
“With an ever-increasing number of national best-sellers every week, as well as the hundreds of excellent and profitable titles that provide the foundation of our success and an exciting pool of talent, the need for someone with John’s experience who can help us focus on the right opportunities and maximize their potential is more critical than ever,” said SMP president and publisher Sally Richardson, who announced Murphy's appointment.
Tracey Guest will take on the title of v-p, director of publicity for SMP, effective June 2. Guest comes from Penguin, where she has been advising director of corporate communications since 2013. Prior to that, she worked as v-p, director of publicity at S&S.
Guest will oversee publicity for SMP, St. Martin's Griffin, Minotaur, and Thomas Dunne Books, reporting to Jeff Dodes, executive v-p, marketing and digital strategy.
