In a reorganization at Simon & Schuster that will see the merger of the house's digital department with its corporate marketing department, Liz Perl has been promoted, and Ellie Hirschhorn, who was executive v-p and chief digital officer, is leaving the company.
In a letter to employees from S&S CEO Carolyn Reidy the change, she said, will create a "powerful, unified marketing and digital group." Perl will step into a newly created position, overseeing the expanded new department, taking the title of executive v-p chief marketing officer.
Reidy added that the shift will allow the publisher to "both expand the range of digital efforts that advance our publishing agenda and assure that we are well positioned to promote discovery of our books via all traditional and digital marketing means at our disposal."
Perl will now oversee company-wide marketing efforts, which S&S said covers the "advertising and promotion department, our retail marketing group, our education and library marketing department and our new integrated marketing team," along with S&S Digital.
Hirschhorn, who joined S&S in 2008, will leave the company on December 12.
