Skyhorse Publishing has named Mark Gompertz group editorial director, effective November 9.

Gompertz, who was most recently creative director, content extensions for Hearst Magazines, had, before that, a long tenure at Simon & Schuster. At S&S he was executive v-p of the Touchstone Fireside imprint and was later named executive v-p digital publishing for the publisher.

According to a statement from Skyhorse COO Alex Merrill, Gompertz’s “deep editorial experience will complement our talented editorial staff, and enable it to not only branch out into new areas, but to publish more important books for our growing markets.”

In making the Gompertz announcement, Skyhorse, founded in 2006 by Tony Lyons, said it is on track to publish more than 1,000 titles in 2015 and generate revenue of $43 million. To accommodate this growth, Skyhorse has made a number of executive hires, including Merrill, who joined the company in April from Globe Pequot.

Merrill has taken over much of the day-to-day activities formerly performed by Lyons. Joe Craig, formerly editor-in-chief at the History Book Club at Book-of-the-Month Club, was hired to run the history and public affairs publishing division, and Ann Choi, joined the company as controller.
