In a memo to Simon & Schuster employees this morning, CEO Carolyn Reidy said that Atria Publishing Group president and publisher Judith Curr is stepping down, effective immediately.
S&S praised Curr for the achievements she made at the publisher. Reidy called Curr “smart, creative, personable, and always keen to try out new ideas and methods of publishing." Curr was also, Reidy added, "deeply committed to bringing new and underserved voices to readers" and "a true champion of diversity both on her staff and on Atria’s lists.”
Reidy said that, until a replacement for Curr is found, Peter Borland and Suzanne Donahue will work with her directly to oversee Atria’s editorial and publishing activities.
Curr has been at S&S for 19 years. After founding Atria Books in 2002, Curr was named president and publisher of the expanded Atria Publishing Group in 2012. Atria now spans an array of imprints, including 37 Ink, Emily Bestler Books, Howard Books, Marble Arch Press, Enliven, Atria Books Español and Strebor Books.
Among the authors Curr has published are Isabel Allende, Fredrik Backman, Rhonda Byrne, Vince Flynn, Colleen Hoover, Joseph Kanon, Thomas Keneally, Karen Kingsbury, William Kent Krueger, John Lescroart, Shirley MacLaine, Kate Morton, Dr. Michael Mosley, JJ Smith, Brad Thor, Jennifer Weiner and Zane.
