After 20 years as publisher of Farrar, Straus and Giroux, Jonathan Galassi is stepping down from the role. Galassi will leave the post later this year, to be succeeded by Mitzi Angel, who will join FSG as senior v-p and publisher. Angel will report to Galassi, who will stay on at the Macmillan division as president.
“The very first time I met Mitzi, I was bowled over by her unique combination of sensibility, warmth, openness, and decision, and I knew she was meant to work with us,” Galassi said in a statement. “She has been a beloved and deeply respected presence here, and I’m certain she will make a vital contribution to our work as we look to the future.”
Angel is no stranger to FSG, having served as publisher of its Faber and Faber imprint in New York from 2008 to 2015. She is currently publisher of Faber and Faber, Ltd., in London. Following her return to FSG, she will oversee all of the company’s editorial and marketing functions. Sean McDonald, publisher of FSG’s MCD imprint, will continue to report to Galassi.
Commenting on her return to FSG, Angel said: “I’m delighted to rejoin my friends and colleagues at FSG. They and the publishing house they work for, led by Jonathan Galassi, represent the best in publishing worldwide.”
