Open Road Integrated Media has named Philip Rappaport to succeed Jon Fine as senior vice-president and publisher. Rappaport has been at Open Road for six years, most recently as v-p and editorial director.
Fine, who has been at Open Road for about one year, is moving to American Media where he will serve as deputy counsel. Prior to moving to Open Road, Fine had been an executive at Amazon; earlier in his career he was counsel at Knopf. Fine's last day at Open Road will be November 15.
Since being named editorial director at Open Road, Rappaport directs the Open Road Publishing Group editorial team, oversees publishing partnerships, and acquires nonfiction and fiction for the company. Prior to joining Open Road he held editorial positions at Bantam Dell, McClelland & Stewart and Free Press. He has also worked in academic publishing.
Paul Slavin, Open Road CEO, said in a letter to employees that Rappaport "knows our company and the industry backwards and forwards. He has the requisite relationships with publishers, the respect of and for our authors but most important he has a deep and abiding love of books."
