Jonathan Karp, president and publisher of Simon & Schuster’s adult publishing group, has promoted Julia Prosser to v-p and director of publicity for the S&S imprint. Prosser, who has been with S&S for 16 years, succeeds Cary Goldstein, who is leaving his post as executive director of publicity and senior editor for the flagship imprint on October 4.
Prosser has worked on campaigns for some of S&S’s biggest authors, including Walter Isaacson, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and David McCullough, and, since 2013, has been deputy director of publicity at the imprint. In his memo announcing her promotion, Karp said Prosser “has distinguished herself as a mentor, a strategist, an organizational maestro, and a leader in the department.”
Goldstein, who has worked with Karp for 13 years at S&S and, before then, Hachette, is joining media start-up WaitWhat, where he will serve as head of curation. WaitWhat, founded in 2017, bills itself as a “media invention company,” and produces the podcasts Masters of Scale and Meditative Story.
According to WaitWhat, the company's mission is to “create boundary-breaking media properties that change the cultural landscape.” In WaitWhat’s release announcing Goldstein’s appointment, the company said Goldstein will be “responsible for identifying the most vibrant, unexpected voices to combine with WaitWhat’s unique capacity to create superlative, enduring media platforms.”
