W.W. Norton has appointed Brendan Curry to the newly-created role of director of the Norton trade group. Curry began his career with Norton in 2001 as an assistant to the college department’s national sales director. He was named publishing director of the trade group in 2019, which, Norton said, led him to collaborate with the editorial team on acquisitions and list-shaping strategies, as well as working to develop new methods for selling books, while also overseeing refinements of forecasting and reporting.
In his new role, Curry will oversee all five of the trade group’s imprints: Norton Trade, Liveright Publishing, Norton Professional Books, Countryman Press, and Norton Young Readers. As such, Norton added, Curry will “work to build on Trade’s success in a dynamic marketplace with increased integration and coordination across departments and imprints,” while also emphasizing Norton’s distinct editorial identity.
“Brendan Curry’s publishing acumen, commitment to thoughtful collaboration, and winning blend of genial wit and deep insight have led in recent years to meaningful strategic moves throughout the Trade Department," said Norton chairman and president Julia Reidhead in a statement. Curry will report to Reidhead.
Over the course of his career Curry was v-p of sales and marketing for the trade division, while also acquiring a range of nonfiction titles. Forthcoming works include books by philosopher David J. Chalmers and former Federal Reserve chairman Ben S. Bernanke.
