As the different Penguin Random House units begin to make adjustments following the recent round of buyouts and layoffs, Viking Penguin president and publisher Brian Tart announced a series of promotions and one new hire.
The promotions at Viking Penguin include Terezia Cicel, who has been named senior editor, and Nidhi Pugalia who has been promoted to editor. Both report to Viking Penguin editor-in-chief Andrea Schulz.
Others receiving a promotion are Camille Leblanc, who has been promoted to associate editor reporting to executive editor Allison Lorentzen; Allie Merola has been promoted to associate editor, reporting to senior editor Lindsey Schwoeri; and Jenn Houghton has been promoted to publishing associate, reporting to Tart.
At Pamela Dorman Books, Seema Mahanian has been appointed senior editor effective September 11. She has been at Grand Central Publishing where her authors included Tia Williams and Naima Coster. She will report to imprint publisher Pamela Dorman.
Tart also announced two promotions at Penguin Life. Amy Sun has been named senior editor and Nina Rodriguez-Marty has been promoted to editor. Both report to Penguin Life editorial director Meg Leder.
“These promotions will help ensure the editorial quality, rigor, and passion that Viking and Penguin is known for will continue for years to come," Tart wrote, in an announcement.
Tart also saluted Wendy Wolf, Rick Kot, and Paul Slovak, who are retiring. "Our editorial staff has learned invaluable lessons from Wendy, Rick, and Paul, as each has been an incredibly generous mentor throughout their careers," Tart wrote. "It is both time to celebrate the extraordinary accomplishments of those publishing greats who are retiring, and to be excited about our future."
