Leigh Marchant will join Hachette Book Group as SVP and chief marketing officer, effective September 23, reporting to deputy CEO Richard Kitson. Marchant succeeds Wibke Grutjen, who departed HBG this month to join Simon & Schuster, and will lead HBG’s marketing strategy team, which works across 40 imprints, and work with HBG's sales team, publishing groups, international marketing teams across Hachette Livre.
Most recently, Marchant served as SVP and director of marketing, strategy, and engagement at the Random House Group, where she oversaw marketing and branding strategies for fiction and nonfiction titles across all categories, including campaigns for such authors as Peter Attia, Brené Brown, Lee Child, Emma Cline, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Glennon Doyle, Lena Dunham, Prince Harry, George Saunders, Nicholas Sparks, and Elizabeth Strout.
Prior to that role at the Random House Group, where she has spent 14 years, Marchant was associate director of marketing for trade paperbacks for the Random House, Spiegel & Grau, and Ballantine Bantam Dell imprints. She has also served as an account manager at Barnes & Noble, advertising and promotions manager at Oxford University Press, and publicist at Perseus Books Group.
