The Duchess of Cambridge, better known as Kate Middleton, is already a fashion trendsetter, but Penguin Canada will has a chance to see if she can also be a literary trendsetter. Reports that the duchess loved the Canadian classic Anne of Green Gables as a girl and wanted to visit Prince Edward Island, the province where the series is set, sparked a lot of interest and media attention during the royal couple’s recent Canadian tour.
During the couple's visit to PEI, actress Tess Benger, who plays Anne in the musical production that runs every summer on Prince Edward Island, presented the duchess with a copy of the book and said that the duchess graciously thanked her and told her that she planned to read the book again. A YouTube video of the presentation can be seen here.
Lynne Missen, publishing director, Young Readers Group, Penguin Canada, says, "Anne of Green Gables holds a very special place in the hearts of Canadians, and at Penguin, we were thrilled to hear that the Duchess of Cambridge shared our love for such a beloved Canadian heroine."
