In a letter to the Penguin Random House staff, CEO Markus Dohle announced that the company will be making a substantial donation to the Red Cross for Philippine relief aid in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan. The initiative was sparked by concern for the nearly 1,400 PRH employees in the Author Solutions division who work in Cebu, an area very near where the greatest devastation has taken place.
"We are deeply thankful that there have been no reported casualties among our staff," said Dohle. "But we know of more than 100 people in our team with family members who have been seriously affected, and many of our colleagues are still trying to get more information about what has happened with their loved ones."
In addition, Dohle announced that the company will expand matching gifts programs already in place, which will enable PRH to equal individual financial contributions to benefit the typhoon’s victims.
