Simon & Schuster has teamed with AARP and The Huffington Post on a contest open to memoirists 50 and older. The winner, who will receive $5,000 and a publishing contract with S&S, will be chosen as part of a year-long celebration at AARP called 'Year of the Boomers.'
A panel of judges will select the winner from a group of finalists. The judges's panel will feature HuffPo's Arianna Huffington, an S&S editor, actress Rita Wilson (who is editor-at-large for a section of HuffPost dedicated to 50+ readers called Huff/Post50), and the AARP's editorial director, Myrn Blyth.
Speaking to the contest, which is calling for completed memoirs between 20,000-50,000 words, Blyth said the goal is to find "a gifted writer who can tell a remarkable story of his or her life. We believe this memoir contest could really be the chance of a lifetime."
Contest rules can be found here, and a winner will be announced in September 2014.
