Sales of Joan Rivers' most recent book, Diary of a Mad Diva, soared in the week following her death on September 4. The book sold 747 copies the week ended August 31, and for the week ended September 7, it sold 5,009 copies—a 570% increase. The memoir has sold nearly 20,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen BookScan.
Out July 1 from Berkley, the book also jumped Amazon's bestseller chart in the days following news of the comedienne's passing, rising to the #2 spot. The book was at #87 Friday morning. No one from Berkley was available to comment on plans for going back to press.
The paperback of Rivers' previous book, I Hate Everyone...Starting with Me, released April 2013, also saw a dramatic increase in sales, selling 42 copies the week ended August 31, and 475 copies the following week. The book, at #324 on Amazon's bestseller chart Friday morning, is taking one to three weeks to ship from the company.
