Patrick Modiano Wins Nobel Prize in Literature
On Oct. 9, the Swedish Academy announced that French author Patrick Modiano, 69, won the 2014 Nobel Prize in Literature. The award, honoring a body of work, comes with a $1.1 million purse.
Authors Guild Names New Executive Director
Mary Rasenberger, a lawyer and six-year Copyright Office and Library of Congress veteran, will take over as executive director of the Authors Guild on Nov. 3. “This is a dream job,” Rasenberger said. “I’m thrilled to contribute... to the guild’s noble mission.”
Harper Forms HarperCollins Germany
Acting on its promise to use the Harlequin acquisition to expand its international footprint, HarperCollins announced the creation of HarperCollins Germany. To form the new unit, HC will expand the Harlequin Hamburg office, although HC executives stressed that the company will continue to release the same number of Harlequin titles under existing imprints.
