Geoff Shandler, one of the more high-profile editors whose position was cut in downsizing at Hachette last summer, has landed a top spot at a new imprint planned at HarperCollins. Shandler will be overseeing the nonfiction side of a new line featuring nonfiction and literary fiction under HC's William Morrow division. The new imprint does not yet have a name.
The news was announced in a letter from Morrow's publisher, Liate Stehlik. She said the new line will "seek to investigate, inform, entertain, and inspire conversation, highlighting both established bestselling authors as well as introducing talented new voices."
Shandler's new title at HC will be v-p and editorial director, and he's set to start in his new role on January 6.
Shandler was most recently editor-in-chief and editorial director of the adult trade division at Little, Brown, and he's edited, among others, Jonathan Safran Foer, Malcolm Gladwell, John le Carré and Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens.
