A Saturday morning three-alarm fire in West Oakland, Calif., that left two people dead, has also damaged two small publishers: the worker-run, anarchist house AK Press, as well as, to a lesser extent, poetry publisher Omnidawn.
It's not yet clear how much damage the blaze, which displaced some 30 people, has caused AK Press. But members of the collective are asking for support to get back on their feet. On a donation page, AK states: “We do know that we’ve lost a lot, and even in the best of times, we always need your support.”
A relief benefit, scheduled for May 9, has been set up for AK Press, the residents, and 1984 Printing, which was also damaged in the fire.
