Scholastic Selling Tech Group to HMH
Scholastic has reached an agreement to sell its educational technology group to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for $575 million. The company will reinvest the proceeds from the sale (expected to be between $360 million and $370 million) in its remaining core businesses.
BAM Launches Self-Publishing Site
Books-A-Million has launched a website called BAM! Publishing DIY, which will allow indie authors to create, edit, and publish their own work. Some publishing packages include distribution on Amazon, Apple iBooks, Barnes & Noble, and Ingram.
New Role for Michaels
Ken Michaels, currently the global COO of Macmillan Science and Education (MSE), has been named CEO of Macmillan Higher Education and Macmillan New Ventures. Michaels will begin his new job when the proposed merger between parts of MSE and Springer Science + Business Media is concluded.
