After its first weekend on sale, E.L. James's latest addition to her Fifty Shades series, Grey: Fifty Shades as Told By Christian, has moved over 1 million copies. The book, which Penguin Random House unit Vintage published on June 18, has, according to the publisher, sold 1.1 million copies in all of its current editions: trade paperback, e-book and audio.
Speaking to the impressive numbers, Vintage publisher Anne Messitte said the achievement "speaks to the engagement and passion readers have for the Fifty Shades books." She added: "Christian’s side of the story is proving to be irresistible.”
Now, after having initially said it would be going back to press twice on the title, Vintage has confirmed it is planning third, fourth and fifth printings of Grey. The publisher said it is "working with multiple plants" on the reprint job which, once completed, will bring the in-print total for the book to 2.1 million copies.
