Random House Children’s Books’ edition of The Rabbit Who Wants to Fall Asleep sold just over 10,000 copies in its first two days on sale, according to data from Nielsen BookScan (which tracks about 85% of all print sales).
RH acquired the rights to the self-published title after sales of the book, which claims to have the ability to put kids to sleep, skyrocketed this summer. RH released Rabbit on October 2; BookScan’s figures reflect sales through Sunday, October 4.
The company remains confident that Rabbit will continue to do well. An RH spokesperson pointed out that the book had limited distribution last weekend but that, by the end of this week, “will be available in retailers nationally, across all channels.”
Sales of the self-published edition of Rabbit totaled 64,000 copies in the last two weeks that it was available in the U.S., according to BookScan. Its author, Carl-Johan Forssen Ehrlin, is currently in the States promoting the book, and spoke with PW about the whirlwind acquisition and re-release of the title.
