September Bookstore Sales Rose 6.7%
Sales hit $1.09 billion this September, up from $1.02 billion last year. The increase follows a down August and was enough to drive sales up by 0.8% in the first nine months of 2015 over the same period a year ago.
New Investors For Quarto
Harwood Capital and Wellcome Trust, both of which had significant stakes in the Quarto Group, sold their shares in the company to several institutional investors. As a result of the sale, Christopher Mills, Harwood Capital’s managing partner, will step down as nonexecutive director of
Quarto when a new nonexecutive director has been appointed. That appointment is expected to take place before Quarto’s annual meeting next May.
New Owners For Candlemark
The speculative fiction press Candlemark & Gleam, founded by Kate Sullivan five years ago, has been acquired by Athena Andreadis, a writer, editor, and scientist.
