Goodreads Offers Daily Discounts
Amazon’s reading and book recommendations site has launched Goodreads Deals, a daily promotional program that offers its members discounted e-books based on the books listed in their Goodreads shelves.
Rodale Shuffles Book Leadership
Kathleen Schmidt has been named associate publisher at Rodale Books, reporting to publisher and v-p Gail Gonzales. Jennifer Levesque has been promoted to v-p and editorial director, and Yelena Gitlin Nesbit was named executive director of strategic development and communications.
Bookstore Sales Continue Hot Start
Boosted by a 10.7% increase in March, bookstore sales for the first quarter of 2016 were up 6.2% over the same period in 2015. Bookstore sales totaled $3.08 billion in the first period, compared to $2.90 billion in the first three months of last year.
Bezos Confirms Plans for More Amazon Stores
At Amazon’s annual shareholders meeting, Jeff Bezos confirmed that the online retailer plans to open more physical bookstores. Bezos did not put a figure on how many new outlets are to come. The company’s first bricks-and mortar bookstore opened in November in Seattle, and a second is planned for San Diego later this year.
IPG Inks Deal To Import Cuban Books
IPG has signed a deal with Corporativo YVT, a Peruvian distributor active in the Cuban book market, to import books by three Cuban publishers into the U.S. The deal was negotiated by Diana Calice, manager of the IPG Spanish-language book distribution program, who said the deal was made possible by the U.S. publishing mission’s trip to Havana in February. The Cuban books will likely be ready to distribute in the U.S. in November.
