Riverhead Books has announced that the paperback edition of the blockbuster bestseller, The Girl On the Train by Paula Hawkins, will hit shelves July 12. The paperback will receive a first printing of one million copies.
Hawkins's debut psychological thriller has sold more than 4.5 million copies in the U.S., and foreign rights have been sold in more than 44 countries. The book spent 20 weeks at #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and a total of 75 weeks on the U.S. list.
According to Riverhead, Girl on the Train is in unique sales company. With the numbers it's posted, it has become one of the fastest selling adult hardcovers ever published.
The New York Times praised the book as "having more fun with unreliable narration than any chiller since Gone Girl," and authors including George R.R. Martin and Stephen King have proclaimed themselves fans, with King going so far as to call the book "dead perfect."
A film adaptation from Dreamworks starring Emily Blunt and Justin Thoreaux and directed by Tate Taylor will debut on October 7.
