Penguin Random House and Crown Publishing are launching Season of Stories, an 11-week email newsletter presenting serialized daily excerpts from works of short fiction. The first newsletter will ship on October 11.
Subscribers to the service will receive works of short fiction, serialized over the course of a week in separate emails, from authors including Anthony Marra, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Adam Johnson, and Elizabeth McCracken. Readers will have the option, after finishing a story, to purchase the book it appears in from the Penguin Random House website.
The stories featured in the program are all written in the first person, and are intended, PRH said, "to create a personal connection and imbue the reading experience with the intimacy of one-to-one email communication."
“We created Season of Stories to connect with readers where they spend so much of their time—their email," Crown assistant director of community development said in a statement. "Our mission is to make participants’ inboxes a more literary space, with great stories, and to help them discover previously unfamiliar author."
