Theresa Thompson, formerly executive v-p of Sterling Publishing, has been promoted to president of the publisher. Thompson has served as executive v-p of the Barnes & Noble publishing imprint since 2012. The promotion is effective immediately.
Thompson first joined Barnes & Noble in 2003, in the audiobook side of the business. In 2008, she was promoted to v-p of newsstand, and in July 2011, her responsibilities were expanded to include bargain and calendars.
“Theresa has managed this business brilliantly and has built a solid organization which has produced great results,” B&N chairman Len Riggio said in a statement. “She is dedicated to helping build retail sales and distinguishing us from others in the marketplace. Theresa is a consummate professional who truly loves Barnes & Noble, and she remains excited about our prospects for the future.”
Thompson's responsibilities include operational and creative management of the company. She will oversee areas of the business including operations, finance, book production, and manufacturing, as well as the development, procurement, and production of all books and proprietary products it develops.
