Abrams, best known for its illustrated works, has announced the launch of an as-yet-unnamed, "text-driven" imprint with a focus on narrative nonfiction. Jamison Stoltz has been brought aboard as executive editor, effective immediately.
“With this new imprint, we are committed to publishing on a broad range of categories that the Abrams program addresses, including popular culture, film, art, design, general-interest science, nature, food topics, and more," Abrams v-p and adult trade publisher Michael Sand said in a statement. "Stoltz is a generalist in the best sense—someone who reads broadly and deeply and brings a passion for good storytelling to the books he acquires and edits. We’re thrilled that he will be heading up a new text line at Abrams."
Stoltz comes to Abrams from Grove Atlantic, where as senior editor, he acquired, edited, and oversaw 12 to 15 titles per year—including this year's The Voyeur’s Motel by Gay Talese and The Waters of Eternal Youth by Donna Leon. The new imprint is expected to acquire 12 to 15 books annually, and begin publishing titles in spring 2018. Stoltz will also hire additional staff.
“I’m delighted to be coming to Abrams at this exciting time for the company, and to work with such a talented team of publishing professionals," Stoltz said in a statement. "Abrams has a stellar reputation for making beautiful books, and I’m thrilled to be joining them to publish original narrative titles that build on the company’s strengths."
The announcement of the new imprint comes less than two weeks after Abrams appointed Jess Brallier to head a newly formed Abrams Plus division that houses a range of Abrams's businesses.
