With the retirements of publisher Andrew Hoyem and senior editor Diana Ketcham, Arion Press announced it is looking for a buyer.
Based in San Francisco, Arion is a fine letterpress printer and publisher that has worked with such artists as Alex Katz, Jim Dine, Julie Mehretu, and Martin Puryear. Founded in 1974 and doing about four books annually, Arion’s most admired titles include a handset edition of Moby-Dick; an edition of James Joyce’s Ulysses illustrated by Robert Motherwell; a two-volume edition of Don Quixote; and a letterpress-printed, two-volume Folio Bible.
Following a sale, Hoyem and Ketcham will remain available for special projects, with day-to-day operations managed by the current staff.
Until a buyer is found, Arion and its parent company, Lyra Corporation, will continue under the aegis of the Grabhorn Institute, which also owns M & H Type. Any parties interested in pursuing a sales should contact Book Advisors LLC at bookadvisorsllc.com.
