Multihyphenate Phoebe Robinson has been given an imprint at the Penguin Random House division that published her bestseller You Can't Touch My Hair in 2016 and Everything's Trash, But It's Okay in 2018. Tiny Reparations Books will be a co-venture between the actress, stand-up comedian, and producer and Plume, which is under PRH's Dutton division.
Plume's publisher, Christine Ball, will serve as publisher of Tiny Reparations Books, with Robinson being its founder. Robert Guinsler at Sterling Lord Literistic represented Robinson in brokering the deal for the imprint. Publicity for the imprint will be provided by Robinson's longstanding publicist, Sam Srinivasan at Sechel PR. (The name of Robinson's new imprint is also the name of her new production company, whose first project was recently announced: an interview series on Comedy Central called Doing the Most with Phoebe Robinson.)
Robinson, who gained fame hosting the podcast 2 Dope Queens, will oversee a list that PRH said will be "highly curated" and focused on literary fiction, literary nonfiction, and "essay collections that highlight and amplify unique and diverse voices." The publisher added: "The imprint is committed to publishing complex, honest, and humorous work that not only reflects the current conversation but also pushes it forward."
Speaking about her imprint, Robinson, in a release from PRH, said: "We all know there is a lack of diversity in publishing. Tiny Reparations Books recognizes that the publishing landscape isn’t going to change until the actual work starts behind the scenes. I am thrilled to partner with Plume to help take this important step. And I look forward to bringing a wide range of voices to Plume and helping to push the boundaries of publishing.”
Plume has also just acquired Robinson's next book, Six Feet Apart, which is set for fall 2021. The publisher said that in the book, Robinson "takes stock of the world," focusing on issue both personal and global in order to dismantle "the stereotypes we hold about ourselves and others with hilarious and always honest, timely observations."
