Hachette Book Group’s Grand Central Publishing division has formed a new nonfiction imprint and hired Callisto Media’s Nana K. Twumasi to head it. Twumasi will join GCP on December 1 as v-p and publisher of the imprint, GCP Balance.
The first GCP Balance titles are scheduled to be released in the first quarter of 2022 and plans call for the imprint to do 24 titles annually. Categories to be covered by the imprint, GCP said, include health/wellness, business, psychology, self-help, diet, how-to, inspiration, work/life, and management. In addition to new titles signed by Twumasi, GCP Balance’s list will include the Eat to Beat and DASH Diet series, as well as backlist titles from what GCP calls “the practical nonfiction spectrum.”
Prior to joining Callisto, Twumasi held editorial spots at Jossey-Bass and at several non-profits in the Bay Area. She will relocate to GCP’s New York City offices. At Callisto, which is known for using data to drive its publishing decisions, Twumasi oversaw a team that released approximately 80 books per year in the wellness space.
"Like many of my peers in the industry, my career in publishing was born from a love of books, of story, and of the written word,” Twumasi said in a statement. “I am delighted to join Grand Central Publishing and can't wait to get to work building our new imprint. It is my privilege to help people achieve balance and be their best, physically and mentally, at work and at home."
