First day sales for Barack Obama's presidential memoir A Promised Land, totaled more than 887,000 units in all formats and editions in the U.S. and Canada, publisher Penguin Random House reported. The memoir was released November 17 and the sales figure includes preorders and was the single largest first-day sales for any book ever published by PRH, the company said.
As PW reported yesterday, booksellers are enthusiastic about the book and sales are brisk at independent bookstores.
A Promised Land is widely expected to be among top selling books in the U.S. this year and was given a first printing of 3.4 million copies, the largest PRH has done for any book in 2020. An unabridged audiobook, read by Barack Obama, was also released on Tuesday. Worldwide, the book was also published simultaneously in 20 languages on Tuesday, with six more to come.
