Liese Mayer, editorial director for fiction at Bloomsbury since 2017, will leave the publisher May 21 to freelance edit. In the wake of the news, Bloomsbury promoted Nancy S. Miller to publishing director for adult trade and Mary Kate Castellani to publishing director for children's trade.
“To say we will miss [Mayer] is a significant understatement,” said Bloomsbury executive director and COO Adrienne Vaughan. Mayer published numerous bestsellers while Bloomsbury, including Piranesi by Susanna Clarke and Women Talking by Miriam Toews, among others.
The company will begin recruiting a new editorial director to cover both adult fiction and nonfiction. They will report to Miller.
Miller, who has been with Bloomsbury for 10 years, had been associate publisher and editorial director of the adult trade list. Castellani has worked at the publisher since 2006 and was most recently editorial director of Bloomsbury Children’s Books. Under a restructuring of the consumer division announced in February both report directly to Vaughan.
