Bloom Books, Sourcebooks’ new imprint for entrepreneurial women authors, announced that popular dark fantasy author Scarlett St. Clair has signed on with the imprint. The agreement calls for Sourcebooks to publish all of St. Clair’s backlist as well as new titles. Bloom Books will release St. Clair’s new novel, King of Battle and Blood, in November 2021 and all of St. Clair’s books will be available from Sourcebooks in this fall.
Formerly a full-time librarian, St. Clair began to self-publish her novels in 2019, beginning with the Hades X Persephone series, which includes the novels A Touch of Darkness, A Touch of Ruin, A Touch of Malice; along with A Game of Fate (which is part of the Hades saga). The books plots are driven by a combination of St. Clair’s obsession with Greek mythology, murder, and the afterlife. The viral popularity of her books allowed her to devote herself full time to writing.
St. Clair said she is “ecstatic” about joining Bloom Books. “Readers and fans always ask me is, ‘How can I get your books?’ Joining Bloom means that all readers and booksellers will have access—something that is very important to me not only as a writer but as a former librarian.”
According to Sourcebooks, King of Battle and Blood is the story of a fearless woman forced to wed a powerful vampire king. The characters, St. Clair said, “are fierce and angry and passionate. Their world is dark, dangerous, and witchy. Every step with them has been a type of magic and I cannot wait to introduce my readers—and new ones—to this world.”
Launched by Sourcebooks in early 2021, Bloom Books is a new imprint focused on attracting self-published and traditionally-published women authors. The imprint began with the announcement that bestselling author E.L. James would bring her complete mega-bestselling Shades of Grey backlist, which was previously published by Penguin Random House to Bloom. PRH holds a 45% stake in Sourcebooks.
“We’ve seen all the excitement about Scarlett across social media, and our bookseller partners have been raving about her,” said Sourcebooks publisher and CEO Dominique Raccah. “After reading her books and meeting Scarlett virtually, we fell in love. We are so excited to welcome her into Bloom .”
