In his regular letter from London, our correspondent Frank Swinnerton took note of some of the publishing industry members who had joined the fight against Nazi Germany and detailed the measures publishers had taken to cope with the challenges caused by the start of World War II. As we noted, Swinnerton’s report was prepared before Germany’s May 10 invasion of the Netherlands, the attack that ended the period known as the Phoney War.
