Chronicle Books has announced that Mikyla Bruder is returning to the company as senior v-p and group publisher. Bruder previously served as publishing director at Chronicle before spending more than a decade at Amazon where she was recently head of Amazon Publishing and Brilliance Publishing.
In a June 20 press release, Chronicle president Tyrrell Mahoney said the publishing company is thrilled to have Bruder back as a leader that can guide Chronicle through its next phase of growth.
“Mikyla is an exceptionally accomplished leader with an unparalleled track record of building agile, creative, and collaborative teams," said Mahoney. "Her deep history and connection with Chronicle Books, in conjunction with her wide‐ranging publishing experience, makes her exactly the right person to lead Chronicle’s publishing groups into the next phase of our growth.”
In her return to Chronicle, Bruder will be at the helm of the company's art, entertainment, food and lifestyle, and children's publishing groups, and manage a team of 85 employees in editorial, design, and production with the goal of strengthening Chronicle’s position in the physical and online marketplace.
Bruder's career experience will play a key role in Chronicle's long-term strategy to be innovative in the publishing marketplace and explore new partnerships in the gifts and book space, added Mahoney.
"Knowing so well what we do and how we work, as well as building a publishing program in a non-traditional way brings a lot to the table," she said. "So we are really excited about applying what (Bruder) has learned and developed, and the marketing strategies that she deployed during her time at Amazon."
Bruder will be based on the west coast and called working for Chronicle again a "dream for me."
"My admiration and respect for all that Chronicle creates has only intensified over the last decade," she said. "I can’t wait to help lead Chronicle Books forward in new and innovative directions while nurturing its instantly recognizable and highly distinctive publishing program.”
