London-based Laurence King Publishing and New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art have inked a brand partnership to collaboratively publish a number of games and gifts inspired by the Met's collection.
The Met x Laurence King line will launch in October 2024 with the games Match a Masterpiece: An Art Lover’s Memory Game, in which players match two halves of artworks, and Sooner or Later?: An Art Lover’s Timeline Game, in which players assemble 45 artworks in chronological order. Both titles will be published on October 15 in North America and October 10 in the U.K.
“I’m extremely proud to be launching our collaboration with The Met with these two titles," said Philip Contos, deputy publisher of Laurence King, in a statement. "They represent core formats at the heart of the Laurence King gift list, adapted and developed especially for this licensed partnership to reflect art and design publishing into the future.”
The global license will include nine titles published in multiple languages over the next three years. The deal was negotiated by Contos and the Met’s representative Linda Morgenstern at Beanstalk.
“The Met x Laurence King Publishing games offer a window into a world of art and design in The Met collection through play,” said Josh Romm, global head of licensing at the Met, in a statement. “These giftable sets are sure to become fan favorites as families and friends connect by discovering beautiful works of art and the stories behind them."
