In the U.K., subscription box company FairyLoot will launch a fantasy publishing imprint in partnership with Transworld Publishers, a division of Penguin Random House U.K. The venture, whose name and logo will be revealed at the London Book Fair in March, will begin publishing in fall 2025.
"At FairyLoot, we've always believed in the magic of stories to transport us to new worlds and unite readers," said Anissa de Gomery, CEO and founder of FairyLoot. "This new imprint represents an exciting new chapter in that journey."
The imprint will publish titles in print, audiobook, and e-book formats. Kimberley Young, managing director of Transworld, said that the initiative emerged from collaboration between a core team including Transworld associate publisher Tom Chicken and FairyLoot cofounders de Gomery and Michael Sammer. The editorial team for the new venture includes acquiring editor Lara Stevenson and four other staffers.
“Discovering new voices has always been central to Transworld’s success, and having long been an admirer of Anissa, we could not ask for a more collaborative partnership,” Kimberley Young, managing director of Transworld, said in a statement.
FairyLoot was founded in 2016 with £4,000 in startup capital and has since built a significant social media presence, with more than half a million Instagram followers. The company ships tens of thousands of subscription boxes monthly, and its substantial subscriber base has previously helped put several titles on the U.K. bestseller list. As a consequence of its significant market presence, de Gomery's team has previously consulted on publishing and marketing strategies for various publishing houses, including producing special edition hardcovers with specially commissioned decorated edges.
