Ann Voskamp, author of One Thousand Gifts (Zondervan), which has sold more than a million copies worldwide since its release in 2011 according to Zondervan, drew eager fans during a 10-city tour to promote her new book The Broken Way: A Daring Path into the Abundant Life (Zondervan) earlier this month. The new book, released on Oct. 25, has sold over 26,000 print copies so far, according to Nielsen BookScan.
Voskamp, who lives in Ontario, Canada, began the tour in New York City on Oct. 25 before continuing on to Buffalo, Chicago, Nashville, Grand Rapids, Oklahoma City, Fort Worth, Dallas, Atlanta, and Toronto.
The largest event, which drew over 250 people, took place at indie bookstore Baker Book House in Grand Rapids, Mich. Each tour event had roughly 200 in attendance, according to Zondervan.
Sue Smith, manager of Baker Book House in Grand Rapids, Mich., said the Voskamp event was one of the largest events the store has hosted.
“We knew she would be very well received in Grand Rapids,” said Smith. “So many people thanked us for having the event with her. Ann is very present with everyone and extremely humble.”
Each store sold between 220 and 250 copies of The Broken Way at its event, according to Zondervan.
Children’s author Sally Lloyd Jones hosted the New York City event; singer Natalie Grant and author Rebekah Lyons hosted two events in Tennessee. The tour ended Tuesday, Nov. 7, with an event in Toronto hosted by Harper Canada.
Zondervan plans to do additional promotions throughout the holiday season following the book's initial success, including featuring The Broken Way in gift guides, e-blasts, and print and online advertising campaigns. Voskamp is also embarking a speaking tour in early 2017 with Lyons.
