HarperOne Nabs Steven Waldman
Raphael Sagalyn at the Sagalyn Agency sold world rights to HarperOne’s Michael Maudlin for the latest book by bestselling author and the founder of beliefnet.com, Steven Waldman (Founding Faith). According to the publisher, The Religious Liberty Delusion examines the core battles that formed and fine-tuned our current understanding of religious liberty in the U.S., and why it’s under attack today. The book is slated for publication in May 2019.
FaithWords Gets ‘Unbound’
In a world rights deal, Keely Boeving at Wordserve Literary sold a memoir on infertility, Unbound, to FaithWords’ Keren Baltzer. Written by blogger Jamie Sumner (mom-gene.com), the book explores infertility treatments, miscarriage, and raising special needs children, all from a Christian perspective, according to the publisher. It’s scheduled for publication in April 2018.
A ‘Modern Single Pastor’ Lands at Fortress
Lisa Gruenisen at Fortress Press took world rights to Single is the New Christian: A Biblical Approach to Modern Singleness… (by a Modern Single Pastor) by Tiffany Thomas, a United Methodist pastor based in Charlotte, N.C. She is also the founder of the blog revtiffanythomas, and the book takes a biblical approach to understanding Christian singleness and makes a case for why singles are an important part of the church. Single is the New Christian is set to be published in late 2018.
SparkHouse Takes the ‘Very Best’
Cyle Young of the Hartline Literary Agency sold world rights to Naomi Krueger at SparkHouse for The Very Best Story Ever Told by children’s book author Robin Currie. To be released in fall 2018, the book features a poem based on Jesus’ life, with important words reinforced in illustrations of how to say them in American Sign Language. Dave Williams is illustrating the book.
WJK Moves On Ethics for Young Adults
Bridgett Green at Westminster John Knox Press acquired the next book by Dr. Jonathan L. Walton (Watch This! The Ethics and Aesthetics of Black Televangelism). A social ethicist and the Plummer Professor of Christian Morals and Pusey Minister at Harvard’s Memorial Church, Walton’s yet-to-be-titled book draws on his experience teaching the Bible to young adults. It addresses ethical issues such as racism, sexism, homophobia, and more, according to the publisher. It will be released in fall 2018. Agent Don Cutler brokered the deal.
