Lynn Austin Moves to Tyndale
In deal negotiated by Natasha Kern of the Natasha Kern Literary Agency, Stephanie Broene, senior acquisitions editor at Tyndale House Publishers, acquired world rights to the next four historical novels by Lynn Austin (Hidden Places). The first yet to be titled book is slated for publication in summer 2020. It will take place during World War II and the years immediately following.
Marlena Graves ‘Up’ at IVP
Cindy Bunch, associate publisher, editorial director at InterVarsity Press, took world rights directly from author Marlena Graves to The Downward Descent of Up (working title). The follow-up to 2014’s A Beautiful Disaster, the book explores the Christian concept of Kenosis, or self-renunciation to become more like Jesus. It is scheduled for publication at IVP’s Formatio line in fall 2020.
OR Books Takes Monk’s English Language Debut
John Oakes, publisher of OR Books, bought world rights from Arnie Kotler at Arnie Kotler Editing Services to The Buddha in Jail by Buddhist monk Cuong Vu. With a foreword from Zen teacher and author Joan Halifax, the book draws on Vu’s experiences as a prison chaplain in the Netherlands to argue for how facing suffering without denial can lead to happiness. It will be published in spring 2019.
