Founded in 1974 by Christian publishing veteran Bob Hawkins Sr., Harvest House has always sought to reach a wide audience. In the coming season, the publisher will bring out a series of books that offer accessible, sometimes entertaining takes on some of Christianity's heaviest and most challenging topics—including the end times, the cosmos, and intelligent design—and God's overall plan to rescue humanity.

In the illustrated and frequently hilarious Non-Prophet's Guide to the End Times (Oct. 2018), author Todd Hampson says that "the world is a scary place right now." Yet the book also offers hope for the future. Harvest House senior editor Steve Miller says, "A key thread that runs through many of our prophecy, apologetics, and contemporary issues books is that the world won't always be a scary place. There is coming a day when God will set things right, and He will do so for all eternity."

This idea is most clearly illustrated in Bloodline: Tracing God's Rescue Plan from Eden to Eternity by Skip Heitzig. It's one of the publisher's biggest 2019 releases, a tour through all the books of the Bible by the renowned pastor of Calvary Albuquerque. Miller calls it "an eye-opening look at just how much God loves us—as proven by what Jesus did at the cross."

For another big-picture perspective, Harvest House will publish The Story of the Cosmos: How the Heavens Declare the Glory of God, edited by Paul M. Gould and Daniel Ray. "There are so many books written from a there-is-no-God perspective," Miller says. This book "provides a powerful Christian response and explores how the sciences, literature, and even the arts provide remarkable evidence for there being an intelligent designer behind the universe we live in."

For readers looking to comprehend and defend other aspects of their faith, Harvest House offers two new books this season on apologetics. The Harvest Handbook of Apologetics, edited by Joseph M. Holden, is "a major overview of what every believer needs to know," Miller says. Mama Bear Apologetics by Hillary Morgan Ferrer is a family-focused take on defending the faith and equipping children with the tools to form their own beliefs.

Harvest House books are written to be informative and accessible, no matter the complexity and magnitude of their subject matter. "Among our goals," Miller says, "is to take more difficult topics such as Bible prophecy and apologetics and, as one of our authors is fond of saying, ‘put the cookies on the bottom shelf' where everyone can reach them."
