Nelson Books Announces Two Promotions
Timothy Paulson, v-p and publisher for Nelson Books, the nonfiction imprint of Thomas Nelson, has announced Daniel Marrs has been named associate publisher and Jennifer Smith has been named v-p of marketing.
Marrs will manage and lead the editorial strategy and production for Nelson Books and help shape the imprint’s acquisitions strategy. Paulson described him as “a seasoned publishing leader” and a past publisher of Thomas Nelson Bibles who returns to the company after serving as v-p and editorial director for Ave Maria Press.
Paulson cited Smith’s “deep industry experience” in trade publishing for nearly 20 years and a literary consultant since 2017 in announcing her appointment. Smith will lead marketing and brand strategies and be involved in acquisitions and author development for the imprint, with the goal, Paulson said, to “expand our reach into new markets and up-level our work with authors and agents.”
SPCK Group Creates New Director Position
U.K.-based Christian publisher the SPCK Group has created a new group publishing director position to oversee all its imprints. Wendy Graham, with experience as a publishing director in London and Nashville, takes the title.
James Catford, chair of SPCK, highlighted “her wisdom, experience and extensive connections” as strengths in their efforts to “seize the many new opportunities that are emerging both domestically and globally.’ The SPCK Group includes: SPCK Publishing; IVP UK, the evangelical house that is an arm of the U.S.-based IVP; Lion Hudson; Monarch Books; Candle Books; and Form, a new imprint focused on “spiritual formation” title.
With the acquisition of Lion Hudson this spring, the SPCK Group has restructured as well. Suzanne Wilson-Higgins, formerly managing director for Lion Hudson, has been named deputy chief executive working with CEO Sam Richardson, and John Hotham, formerly IT director of SPCK, becomes operations director.
