Jeff Johnson, whose career with Tyndale House Publishers spans 37 years, is retiring from his position as chief administrative officer on September 29.
In 1986, Johnson began his career at Tyndale as a stock runner. He was named Tyndale's director of human resources and administrative services in 1998, and ten years later, he was promoted to v-p of publishing services. Johnson was named COO in 2004, followed by a promotion to the role of president and COO in 2016. In 2021, Johnson stepped into the role of chief administrative officer of Tyndale House Ministries.
Johnson's accomplishments at Tyndale include the creation of Tyndale Español in 2005 as well as the acquisition of the Hendrickson Publishing Group in 2021. Johnson also helped shepherd initiatives to expand Tyndale's catalog, which aided the financial and ministry success of the company, according to a press release. Further, Johnson played an essential role in recognizing the value and bringing to market Tyndale’s successful Filament-enabled Bible, which features page-recognition technology and received a patent in 2021.
In a press release, CEO of Tyndale Scott Mathews described Johnson's leadership as "instrumental in guiding Tyndale House Publishers and the greater Christian publishing industry." Mathews added of Johnson: "We are grateful for his contributions over the years and for all his efforts in furthering the mission of Tyndale House Ministries. He will be missed.”
Following his retirement, Johnson will continue to serve on the board of Tyndale House Foundation. “I will also continue to serve in other volunteer ministry leadership positions and will be looking for new opportunities where I might be able to serve," he tells PW.
A search for Johnson's replacement in a CFO position is underway, according to Doug Walton, v-p of human resources and administrative services at Tyndale.
Correction: This article has been updated to reflect that Tyndale is recruiting for the CFO position, not the chief administrative officer position.
