In the illustrated volume Frank Reade: Adventures in the Age of Invention, Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett re-team to produce a look back at the forgotten pulp hero of American “invention fiction” from the late 1800s, inventor and adventurer Frank Reade, who first appeared in dime novels by author Harry Enton who was, arguably, the very first author in the “steampunk” genre trend. Collecting and inventing images from decades of Reade family exploits, Guinan and Bennett create what PW’s review called “a stunning multimedia confection of the highest order that creates a detailed and delightful world.” Here, the folks at Abrams preview a few of the intricate images from the imagined history of the Reades.
