The National Book Foundation, GoodReads, Mashable, and Penguin Random House have collaborated on a new initiative called National Readathon Day, to take place on January 24. The Readathon invites people across the country to commit to reading a book for four straight hours, all while raising funds for the National Book Foundation.
The initiative is also asking bookstores and libraries to host "reading parties" on January 24, so those readers participating can "gather, connect, and read silently together" during the Readathon. It is also asking readers to use the hashtag #timetoread to share his or her experience.
Readers can raise money individually, or as organized teams. National Readathon Day has partnered with First Giving for the donation effort, with all funds going directly to the National Book Foundation. The page can be found here.
