The 27th annual Lambda Literary Awards, held June 1, drew a record 550-plus attendees to the Great Hall at Cooper Union, in New York City. In addition to the 24 categories of Lammys, three special awards were also presented, including the Pioneer Award, which Rita Mae Brown received after an introduction by Gloria Steinem, and the Trustee Award, given to John Waters after an introduction by Liz Smith.
