The Northern California Independent Booksellers Association (NCIBA) announced the hiring of Calvin Crosby as its new executive director. Current executive director Hut Landon will train Crosby, and the formal handoff of the position will occur following the NCIBA Discovery Show on October 15-16 in South San Francisco.
Crosby has served a 10-year stint on the NCIBA board, including a term as president. He also brings more than two decades of bookselling experience to the role, at both Book Passage and Books Inc., in all aspects of bookstore operations. He has also been committed to bookseller education, having led and/or participated in sessions on a national level with ABA and locally with NCIBA. Crosby most recently served as sales and marketing director at McSweeney's.
“I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to have Calvin succeeding me,” said Landon. “NCIBA has been such an important part of my life, and to know that the association will continue to flourish and innovate under Calvin’s leadership is wonderfully gratifying.”
In addition to Crosby's hiring, NCIBA has hired longtime independent bookseller Ann Seaton as administrator. Seaton brings 35 years of bookselling experience to the role, and will leave her job as manager of Hicklebee’s children’s bookstore, and her position on the NCIBA board, to work for NCIBA.
Crosby said, “I feel like I’ve been training for this position since the very beginning of my career. My goal is to empower booksellers and let them know they aren’t alone. I honestly couldn’t be more excited to be doing this."
