This year’s Making Information Pay conference, organized annually by the Book Industry Study Group, is scheduled to be held May 26 at the Masonic Temple Building on West 23rd street in Manhattan. The day-long conference will focus on the theme of Publishers Making a Profit by Making a Difference, and feature presentations on combining corporate social responsibility with operational efficiency.
The conference will feature presentations on community outreach, consumer data privacy, accessible publishing practices and diversity in the workplace. The keynote is being delivered by Lee Raine, director of Internet, Science and Technology Research at Pew Research Center and is titled "American Attitudes About Data Privacy, Security and Surveillance: Implications for the Book Industry."
Panels include "Books on the Ground": The long-term benefits of meeting readers in real life”, featuring bookseller Jessica Stockton Bagnulo, co-owner of Brooklyn’s Greenlight Bookstore, as well as a Diversity Town Hall with Lee & Low publisher Jason Low and PW senior news editor Calvin Reid, among others.
