Citing concerns over the continuing pandemic, the American Booksellers Association announced that it will postpone Children’s Institute, an annual conference of children’s book publishers, authors and retailers, until 2021.
Originally slated to be held in June 2020 at the Weston La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tuczon, Az, the event has been rescheduled for June 16-18, 2021 at the same venue.
In making the announcement, ABA said all registered booksellers will be refunded for their $139 registration fee and noted that booksellers who received a scholarship to the 2020 institute will have the right of first refusal to participate next year.
The ABA said it is exploring the possibility of hosting virtual events this June "to bring together those who had planned to attend Ci8." Booksellers can email childrensinstitute@bookweb.org to suggest ideas and opportunities for children’s booksellers to get together on-screen.
