John Green and Veronica Roth have ruled the U.S. bestseller list for most of 2014, and the two authors have also dominated the Canadian juvenile list for the year to date. Green managed to place three editions of one book—his mega-bestselling The Fault in Our Stars—among the top five juvenile bestsellers, as the hardcover, trade paperback ,and trade paperback movie tie-in editions all racked up big sales through September 14. Roth had two books from her Divergent series on the list, Allegiant and Insurgent.
Diana Gabaldon, a longtime U.S. author who is enjoying perhaps her strongest run yet in the States, had the #1 adult fiction title in Canada so far this year with Written in My Own Heart’s Blood. The novel is the latest in the Outlander series, which received a sales boost from Starz’s television series adaptation, which began running this summer. Ontario’s Joseph Boyden had the #2 bestselling fiction title through mid-September with The Orenda. Boyden’s Through Black Spruce won the Scotiabank Giller Prize in 2008. The adult nonfiction list had a mix of Canadian and American titles at the top, led by Heaven Is for Real.
