Audrey Carlan’s Calendar Girl series, published in the U.S. by Waterhouse Press, continued to win over readers in France in February. The third book in the series, March, landed at #1 on the French fiction bestseller list. In January, Carlan’s February was the top seller. The series has nine more books to go. Debuting in second place on the French fiction list was Bernard Minier’s newest Martin Servaz thriller, Night. A number of Minier’s Servaz novels have been published in the U.S. by Minotaur.
In Italy, The Art of Being Fragile by Alessandro D’Avenia remained in the top spot on the combined bestseller list in February, while A Sense of Guilt by Georges Simenon was in second. Simenon was a prolific Belgian writer who spent some time in the U.S. before dying in 1989. Many of Simenon’s 1980s works were released in the U.S. by Houghton Mifflin. Bestseller author Chiara Gamberale’s newest novel, Something, also had a strong debut last month, hitting in third place in Italy.
Andy Griffiths’s children’s book The 78-Storey Treehouse has been a bestseller not only in his native Australia but in the U.S. and other countries as well. In February he topped the combined bestseller list in the Netherlands. In the U.S. the book was released in January by Macmillan Children’s Books. Treehouse beat out You’ll Never See Me, a memoir by a former Dutch television talk show host Sonja Barend.
